Here's a big idea. A parking spot finder for your pocket.

The Park Shark App

It's not an ad or a site or a widget. It's not for a particular brand. It's just a great idea that helps people. And it will make the guy who made it a shitload of money. -Jon

  1. That's so bizarre, how do you think that they figured out where parking is? Is it like street parking or a particular parking garage? Do they have little chips in every spot or something?

  2. Taiyo, it actually works off a complex algorithm that is dependent upon fellow users entering data such as what time they have parked and what time they are leaving their space. But keep in mind that most meters in SF are wired. Have you noticed how some meters take credit cards? The credit card information is beamed wirelessly to a processing center. So it is possible for future meters to have a sensor that can detect if the spot is empty or not. And cities are open to providing this information to software developers. NYC recently staged a contest inviting phone software engineers to develop commuter apps. They gave entrants access to all the back end information. I'll post an example soon. -Jon
